Mark 4:37 Romans 8:39 11/4/2015

Mark 4:37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid?  Do you still have no faith?”

The last question in this passage sometimes goes unnoticed as we try to comprehend a man who can tell the sea to "Be Still!".  But the question is important.

Jesus asks His disciples,  "do you still have no faith?", and I think emphasis was on the word "Still".....At this point they had lived and walked with Jesus...they had watched Him drive out demons, heal the sick, tell the crippled to walk, and much, more

...yet when danger arouse they still panicked, and questioned his plan, power, and affection for them.

How many times, when our personal worlds are threatened, do we become self absorbed -  asking "God do you not care?" ....And how many times must He think "do you STILL have no faith?" Have you forgotten the times I have blessed you?  Have you forgotten the times I have delivered you?  Have you forgotten the price I paid to redeem your soul?

We have to resist the temptation to become self centered, and dramatic in our trials.

We must remember that the One we pray to tells the storm to "Be Still!" and it obeys. We must remember the miracles performed that have brought us to this point....and above all we must remember that His love for us is undeniable and limitless...." neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)
